Exploring the Distinction: Plant-Based vs. Vegan

Plant-based is the new buzz word you might have seen around your grocery store or popping up in articles.  Depending on who you ask, you could get varying answers on what qualifies a plant-based diet. Some define it as consuming predominately plants in their diet, but still allowing some meat and animal products. Others would define it as keeping their diet free of animal products.  Some draw the line at allowing eggs and dairy, others maybe fish. Plant based can be an ambiguous term that means something different to different people.

Understanding Veganism

Vegan on the other hand has a clearly defined definition: a person who does not eat or use animal products.

Cookies for All: Plant-Based and Vegan

We are happy to announce we’re making cookies that fall into both diet categories:  Plant-Based and/or Vegan. For the average consumer’s sake, we’re calling these new cookies Plant-Based. Because, let’s be honest, sometimes hearing something is “vegan” makes us automatically label it as “weird”. But, we promise you, you won’t even be able to tell the difference between our regular and plant-based cookies. Take a look…can you tell which is which?

The Benefits of a Plant-Based Diet

Yes, “plant-based” is the new trendy phrase. That doesn’t mean there aren’t some serious benefits behind it. Which is why we knew we wanted to get behind it.  A plant-based diet can have a huge impact on the world and environment.  “Animal agriculture is responsible for more greenhouse gas emissions than the entire transportation sector. It’s also responsible for nearly 90% of the deforestation in the Amazon, and is a huge drain on our water supplies.”*  There have also been many health benefits found to be linked to sticking to a plant-based diet from a lower risk of heart disease, a smaller waistline, and decreased risk of cancer.**  Of course, a plant-based diet removes any concerns about animal welfare, too.

Meeting Customer Demand

And, of course… many of our customers, fans, and friends have been requesting a dairy-free, egg-free cookie option without animal products in it. So, now we can deliver these delicious, responsible cookies to our customers.
